A 40-Hour Immersion in the Baltimore Mediation Core Curriculum with an emphasis on Legal and Ethical Issues

Description:

This is a certificated 40-hour mediation training, a comprehensive immersion in our Mediation Core Curriculum designed to teach you everything you need to know to start mediating, either professionally or for daily use and practice. We’ll focus on mediation, conflict transformation and resolution theory and skills, taking plenty of time over the five day training to instruct, discuss and reinforce the fundamental mediator skills and responsibilities, supported by group work, role-plays and directed feedback from trained mediators. Particular emphasis is placed on legal implications of mediation, adherence to state and federal laws, as well as the mediator code of ethics. The course emphasizes the following:

  • Understanding the mediation process and mediator’s role
  • Hands-on skills necessary to mediate for others
  • Communication skills and conflict transformation how-to’s
  • Legal and ethical standards of practice and dilemmas
  • Working with attorneys and other third parties
  • Individual feedback from trainers addressing participants’ specific strengths and areas for improvement

Dates: Monday through Friday, February 23 – February 27 (9 am – 5:00 pm every day), 2015

What’s Included: 40-hour certificated course held over a period of
five consecutive days, training manual and materials.

A certificate noting 40 hours of attendance will be provided at the end of training. It may be used to apply for state circuit court rosters of approved mediators and for continuing education credits from the participant’s accrediting institution.

This training is approved by and/or a certificate of successful completion
of this training may be used to satisfy the requirements of the following:

  • The Maryland Circuit Courts
  • The United States government and all federal agency rosters
  • The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners
  • Most other states which have 20, 40 or 60 hour mediation training requirements.

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel their registration at least 15 business days prior to the start date of the training to be entitled to a full refund. Cancellations received 7 business days prior to the start date of the training to be entitled to a 50% refund. Cancellations received less than 7 business day prior to the start date will not be subject to any refund. This policy is due to the high level of customization each of our programs is subject to, based on the number of people that have registered and space limitations.
