December 40-Hour Fundamentals of Conflict Transformation and Mediation

This course is led by Louise Phipps Senft, the author of the best-selling book: Being Relational: the Seven Ways to Quality Interaction & Lasting Change. All registrants will receive a signed copy of the best-seller.

This is a certificated 40-hour Mediation and Conflict Transformation Skills training, from the Relational approach. This nationally recognized course is a comprehensive immersion in our Mediation Core Curriculum designed to teach you everything you need to know to start mediating, either professionally or for daily use and practice. We’ll focus on mediation, conflict transformation and resolution skills, relational conflict theory,, taking plenty of time over the five-day training to instruct, discuss and reinforce the fundamental mediator skills and responsibilities, supported by group work, role-plays and directed feedback from skilled transformative mediators on the Baltimore Mediation team. This course provides the tools and theory critical in transforming conflict in all areas of conflict and dispute: family, business, workplace, community, lawsuits and legal claims, and working with counsel and other third-party representatives in mediation.

This is a nationally approved certificated mediation training that emphasizes the following:

  • Understanding Relational conflict theory and practice as mediators, shapers of policy, academics, and quality decision making
  • Understanding the dynamics of the mediation process and how to follow through
  • Understanding your own style
  • Bringing Clients to the Table
  • Fostering Communication Breakthroughs
  • Identifying Empowerment and Recognition Opportunities
  • Enneagram Self-Awareness Inventory & Development of the Mediator
  • Hands-on conflict intervention skills necessary to mediate
  • Mediator Standards of Practice and Ethics
  • Individual feedback from trainers and skilled transformative mediators on the Baltimore Mediation team addressing participants’ specific strengths and identifying growth edges for practice excellence
  • Working Effectively with Counsel and Other Representatives
  • Working with Multiple Parties
  • And Introduction into Conflict Systems work

What’s Included: A 40-hour certificated course held over a period of five consecutive days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), a copyrighted 275-page training manual, a copy of the Best-Seller: Being Relational: the Seven Ways to Quality Interaction & Lasting Change, and materials.

A certificate noting 40 hours of participation will be provided at the end of training for each person completing the course. It may be used to apply for state circuit court rosters of approved mediators and for continuing education credits from the participant’s accrediting institution.

This training is approved by and/or a certificate of successful completion of this training may be used to satisfy the requirements of the following:

  • The Maryland Circuit Courts
  • The United States government and all federal agency rosters
  • The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners
  • Maryland State Board of Education
  • Most other states which have 20, 40, or 60-hour mediation training requirements.
