SUMMARY:ACR Family and Elder Section Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Creative Reflection on ACR Practice to Deepen Work \n\nThe ACR Family Section will gather for two fun days\, following the ACR Annual Conference\, in order to share thoughts\, ideas and reflections about how to improve and grow the work and impact of section\, and section members.\n\nAmong those presenting will be Michelle LeBaron\, Kay Branis and Sue Bronson.\n\nMore information here.\n\n \n\nMichelle LeBaron joined the University of British Columbia Law Faculty in 2003 as a full\nprofessor and was Director of the UBC Program on Dispute Resolution from 2003-2012. From\n1993-2003\, she taught at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution and the Women’s\nStudies program at George Mason University in Fairfax\, Virginia. Prior to moving to the US\, she\ndirected the Multiculturalism and Dispute Resolution Project at the University of Victoria.\nProfessor LeBaron has lectured and consulted around the world on intercultural conflict\nresolution\, and has practised as a family law and commercial mediator. She was called to the Bar\nof British Columbia in 1982 after articling at Campney and Murphy in Vancouver.\nProfessor LeBaron’s research focuses on how the arts can foster belonging and social cohesion\nacross cultural and worldview differences. Her current project investigates how dance\,\nmovement and kinesthetic awareness can enhance practitioners’ and parties’ capacities to\ntransform conflict and is the subject of a forthcoming book. Professor LeBaron’s most recent\nbook is Conflict Across Cultures\, with co-editor Venashri Pillay of ACCORD (South Africa) and\ncolleagues from three other world regions. She has also published on creativity\, intuition\,\nspirituality and intercultural relations.\n\n \n\nKay Pranis teaches and writes about the dialog process known as ‘peacemaking circles.’ Kay learned\nabout peacemaking circles in her work in restorative justice in the mid-90s Her initial teachers in the\ncircle work were Barry Stuart\, a judge in Yukon\, Canada\, and Mark Wedge and Harold Gatensby\, First\nNations people of Yukon. Since that initial exposure to the use of peacemaking circles in the justice\nsystem Kay has been involved in developing the use of peacemaking circles in schools\, social services\,\nchurches\, families\, museums\, universities\, municipal planning and workplaces.\nKay has authored or co-authored several books about circles: Peacemaking Circles – From Crime to\nCommunity; The Little Book of Circle Processes – A New/Old Approach to Peacemaking; Doing\nDemocracy with Circles – Engaging Communities in Public Planning; Heart of Hope – A Guide for Using\nPeacemaking Circles to Develop Emotional Literacy\, Promote Healing & Build Healthy Relationships.\nKay works primarily as an independent trainer in the peacemaking circle process. She is also an adjunct\nprofessor at Simon Fraser University\, Eastern Mennonite University and Southwest Minnesota State\nUniversity.\nKay has a particular interest in the use of circles to support social justice efforts addressing racial\,\neconomic\, class and gender inequities. That interest includes the use of peacemaking circles to\nunderstand and respond to historical harms to groups of people. The peacemaking circle process has\nbeen a source of energy\, inspiration and continuous learning for Kay for the past 15 years.\n\n

SUMMARY:Louise Phipps Senft Teaching at the Enneagram Teacher Certification Program\, Bergamo Center
DESCRIPTION:Organized by the Enneagram Worldwide\, this certification program is intended for those who want to become certified Enneagram teachers in the narrative tradition.\n\nMore information can be found here: http://www.enneagramworldwide.com/enneagram-teacher-certification/overview/\n\nDiscover the Enneagram and Register for our next Enneagram of Personality Workshop\n\nThe Enneagram is a powerful and dynamic personality system that describes nine distinct and fundamentally different patterns of thinking\, feeling and acting.\n\nThe word “ennea” is Greek for nine and “gram” means model or figure. Hence\, the Enneagram is a diagram or star with nine points representing the nine personality patterns. Each of these nine patterns is based on an explicit set of perceptual filters that determine our worldview. Underneath each of the nine patterns is a basic proposition or belief about what you need in life for survival and satisfaction.\n\nAs you discover your personality type and the underlying basic proposition\, you also will discover what motivates you\, your coping strategy and keys to personal development.

SUMMARY:The Mediation and Arbitration Institute of Quebec Conference on Psychological Harassment: Current Assessments and Future Persectives
DESCRIPTION:The Conference\, taking place in Montreal\, Quebec\, on November 15\, 2012\, is designed to provide attendees with a wide range of both traditional and innovative means of dealing with workplace bullying\, pursuant to anti-bullying legislation adopted by the Province of Quebec in 2004.\n\nWhat are the objectives of these laws? What conclusions can be drawn from the practices developed over the last years in response to bullying in the workplace? Depending on the path chosen to resolve the issues\, what are consequences for the parties involved in the conflict? Are there any prevention methods in place? What are some of the current methods in place to respond to psychological harrasement?\n\nThe Mediation and Aritration Institute of Quebec invites all professionals involved in conflict resolution/transformation in the workplace to attend this conference and try to get answers to these questions.\n\nThe one-day conference will feature internationally renowned practitioners in the field of mediation\, such as John Peter Weldon\, former Baltimore Mediation alumnus who has taken our learnings and developed a transformative practice in Canada\, his home country. John Peter will talk about the benefits of transformative practice and how its tools can be used to resolve crises in human interaction in the workplace.\n\nFor registration and more information (in French) \, please click here.\n\nThe Conference is sponsored by the Inter-professional Federation of Health\, of Quebec\, the Central Syndicates of Quebec\, the Center of Expertise and Prevention of Treatment of Psychological Harassment among other names.

SUMMARY:Louise Phipps Senft Presents "Tips on How to Deal with End of Life Decisions and Preserve the Integrity and Love of Your Family" at National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers Conference\, Towson\, MD
DESCRIPTION:Tips on How to Deal with End of Life Decisions and Preserve the Integrity and Love of Your Family \nFamilies today are assuming responsibility for the informal care of over 75 percent of elderly family members and are often faced with difficult decisions from a bewildering array of choices:  e.g. alternative living arrangements\, financial issues\, and multidisciplinary care.  In the best of circumstances\, this can be a stressful process and sometimes leads to disagreements\, confusion\, and conflict at a time when the best intentions of the family are to work together for the needs of a loved and respected aging family member. \n What is elder care mediation?  How can a mediator assist with exploring sensitive issues and making informed decisions? What is family conflict and when and how do we surpass it? \nWho can and who cannot be involved in the process? How do you convince your loved ones to participate? And how do you deal with situations when family members have become estranged? Or when their mental capabilities have been affected by severe illness? \nOne of the goals of this presentation is to help geriatric care professionals find answers to all of these questions in a manner that is applicable to their everyday work with elder patients and their friends and relatives\, as well as inform the audience about the benefits of mediation so they can then make this tool available to their patients and other interested parties. \n            The objectives are centered around: \n\n\n creating a link between eldercare professionals and the conflict resolution world\, so we can better assist each other with continuous and improved learning;\n 	 expanding the networking capacities of our fields of expertise;\n creating an educational connection in order to better the quality of our work and care and assist our patients and clients in a more effective way.\n\n            The objectives of the presentation are as follows: \n\n\n Define conflict and assess conflict experiences;\n Differentiate the types of disputes and conflicts that are specific to the elderly\, identify and analyze the most negative aspects and select strategies to overcome difficulties and enable transformation towards something more positive;\n Explain conflict transformation theory\, review main steps in the process and recommend best practices to employ when dealing with elderly conflict;\n Compare conflict transformation to other forms of conflict management\, determine its advantages and  how can it be integrated into elder care practice;\n Illustrate ways in which elder care providers apply conflict transformation skills to produce better quality results;\n Indicate modalities for conflict resolution practitioners and elder care providers to create connections between practices and solve conflicts in a more time and cost efficient manner;\n Review main points of the mediation/conflict transformation process and evaluate its applications in the geriatric care field;\n Recommend next steps for elder care professionals in order to design specific conflict transformation levers within their organizations.
