ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOPS-INTRODUCTION

SELF-AWARENESS AND CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION-THE ENNEAGRAM AS A CATALYST

The Enneagram is a dynamic system of nine personality types set in a non-sectarian spiritual framework. It is meant to help us understand ourselves, the people in our lives, and our relationship to the greater realities that guide human evolution. Each of the 9 personality profiles describes a distinct and fundamentally different pattern of thinking, feeling and acting, offering profound insight about why we behave the way we do, how we can change, and a precise path to psychological and spiritual freedom.

Self-awareness is greatly heightened by working with our own type’s leading strengths and unrecognized blind spots. Taught in the company of others, this system also generates compassion and relationship skills with people who experience the world in a very different way.

CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION AND THE ENNEAGRAM

This is a worldview informed by a belief that strength of self is what people desire most in their interactions. Humans also have a natural desire for responsiveness and connecting with other humans. This theory supposes that conflict occurs when the connection and responsiveness of others' is cut off or interrupted during a crisis.

How well we are in tune with our internal state, or how self-aware we are, has a strong influence on how we 'do' conflict. By helping us to understand who we are, the enneagram improves our self-awareness. With a better understanding of our conscious motivations, we can better handle conflict.

FINDING CONNECTIONS

To be understood by others and improve relationships, we need to have a better understanding of ourselves. The enneagram defines nine distinct patterns of thinking, feeling and acting. Understanding this offers us profound insight into why we behave the way we do. The knowledge we gain about ourselves helps to reduce personal reactivity, opening a path to psychological and spiritual freedom.

Description: This introduction will cover principles of a relational approach to negotiation and interactions with a focus on The Enneagram system. We will work with all 9 Personality Types, their wings, stress and security points, in interactive lecture and in the Narrative Tradition . Each type’s structure and habit of mind will also be explored using exercises in pairs. Specific practices will be incorporated to raise self-awareness, and our personal reacting patterns and move beyond our habits of mind into a place of more groundedness, freedom, productivity, and integration.
