Basic Mediation Skills I

Annually, Baltimore Mediation offers three separate and different basic trainings, all of which can be taken in any order and combination in February, June, or October to satisfy the equivalent of 40, 60 or 80 hour mediation training requirements. Basic Mediation Skills I: Mediator Self-Awareness and Third Party Intervention

Description: Basic 20-hour mediation and conflict transformation
and resolution theory and skills course with a focus on mediator self
awareness and third party intervention, with certification for circuit
court mediators and for daily use and practice. The course emphasizes
the following:

  • Understanding the Theory and Practice of Mediation, as Mediators
  • Self-Awareness Inventory and Development
  • Hands-on Conflict Intervention Skills Necessary to Mediate
  • Communication Skills and Transformation “How-To’s”
  • Individual Feedback from Trainers, addressing Participants’ Specific Strengths and Areas for Improvement
  • Mastering and Understanding of Oneself as the Conflict Intervener
  • Understanding the Motivations of Personality in Conflict
  • Working with the Enneagram Personality Typology and Reducing Personal Reactivity
  • Working Effectively with Counsel and Other Representatives
  • Mastering the Skills of “little m” for Everyday Conflict Management
Dates: Wednesday, June 19 (5pm -9pm), Thursday, June 20 (9am-5:30pm), Friday, June 21 (9am – 5:30pm), 2013

Annually, Baltimore Mediation offers three separate and different basic trainings, all of which can be taken in any order and combination in February, June, or October to satisfy the equivalent of 40, 60 or 80 hour mediation training requirements. Basic Mediation Skills III: Focusing on Legal and Ethical Issues

Description: Basic 40-hour mediation and conflict transformation
and resolution theory and skills course with a focus on sources of conflict and systems approach, with certification for circuit court
mediators and for daily use and practice. The course emphasizes the
following:

  • Understanding the mediation process and mediator’s role
  • Hands-on skills necessary to mediate for others
  • Communication skills and conflict transformation how-to’s
  • Legal and ethical standards of practice and dilemmas
  • Working with attorneys and other third parties
  • Individual feedback from trainers addressing participants’ specific strengths and areas for improvement
Dates: Monday through Friday, February 18 – February 22 (9 am – 5:30 pm every day), 2013

40 Hour Fundamental Mediation and Conflict Transformation Skills Training

Description: This is a 40-hour mediation and conflict transformation
and resolution theory and skills course, with certification for circuit
court mediators and for daily use and practice. The course emphasizes
the following:

  • Understanding theory and practice as mediators, shapers of policy, academics, and people: the mediation process and your own type and style
  • Bringing Clients to the Table
  • Dealing with Strong Emotions
  • Working with and through Impasse
  • Fostering Communication
  • Identifying Empowerment and Recognition Opportunities
  • Self-Awareness Inventory & Development
  • Hands-on conflict intervention skills necessary to mediate
  • Mediator Standards of Practice and Ethics
  • Individual feedback from trainers addressing participants’
    specific strengths and areas for continued development and excellence.
Dates: Monday through Friday, December 16-20, 2013 (every day from 9 am – 5:30 pm)
